Global Connections Ministry

Galatians 5:13-14

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh[a]; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself"

Meet our July 2022 Mission team. They were deeply impacted by their experiences.

Mission Trip to

Nassau, Bahamas

2020

From February 22-28, Bryon L., Jim B., Debbie & Jim C., Tom McC., Carolyn C., Virginia W., Keith S., and Mark S. served our brothers and sisters in Nassau in the aftermath of the very devastating Hurricane Dorian. The team provided support to a food ministry, supported a clothing distribution ministry, and ministered to a senior center, providing a worship and communion experience, and served at an orphanage providing a deep cleaning in support of the staff and children there.

The team participated actively in the local church during worship and prayer meetings, and prayer walks in the community during the week and met with the Pastor and his wife to discuss the impact of Hurricane Dorian on the region. The hurricane created numerous refugees from the Caribbean islands as many smaller islands were leveled as a result of the category 5 storm.

Each traveler on the team was impacted significantly in their own unique way as God intended for them during this trip. One member was baptized, a couple renewed wedding vows, others stepped out in faith in new ways to discover courage, faith, peace, joy, belonging, or answers from the Lord.

During the trip, the Covid-19 virus was making its way to the US and Caribbean. Within 2 weeks of our return, the county was in a panic and began to lockdown and quarantine as the virus surged.

One specific thing the Lord impressed upon the team during the trip was the power of prayer. Lives were changed by the immersive and overwhelming power of prayer. This practice was brought back with the team and was introduced as a means to create and maintain connections for the HBC congregation during the lock down and thereafter, when the congregation could not meet face to face in the “building”. The “church” (meaning the PEOPLE) was still active and with the use of Zoom, a twice weekly prayer meeting was formed that has become a staple in the life of the congregation. The team continues to see God’s hand at work and continues to reverberate with the joy, courage, and sense of His presence the He provided on this trip. Many travelers have continued to serve in the Community Meals program and we see the Lord working in powerful ways, as we listen and follow Him out of the safety and comfort of our little boats, on the beautiful and stormy ocean where God is waiting for us.
